THE KROKENBERGER HOUSE I, PA

Pt. 1 of 3

This homestead has a 2.5 story white brick home, garage, greenhouse and well. It's tucked in nicely (and disturbingly) between a busy road, a retail store and its parking lot. The home has a lot of potential but, of course, it needs a lot of work as well. A retired couple lived at the home for 18 years ('84-'01) and when the retail store's permits were approved, the homeowner stated: “We’ll just stay here and be engulfed by the march of progress." I love a man who knows the language of sarcasm. Progress, my ass. (ID# 05.31.2009 Krokengerger Homestead)

PHOTOGRAPHS OF ME TAKING... II

On a bi-weekly basis for the entirety of 2009, Mark & I have explored abandoned sites – with great success, I might add. We started taking photos of each other on site and then trading them after we got home, as keepsakes of our efforts. Please check out his fantastic Flickr site, I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. Anyway, here's several recent favorites he's taken of me.

Row 1: Consumers Ice Factory
Row 2: Essex County Jail
Row 3: (l) Essex County Jail, (r) Pennhurst State Hospital
Row 4: York County Prison
Row 5: York County Prison
Row 6: Tome School for Boys
Row 7: Tome School for Boys

LINFIELD INDUSTRIAL PARK, PA

These shots were taken only in and amongst the massive, airplane-hangar sized storage facilities in the rear of the complex. More from the rest of the site will appear in time.

In my research, it seems that the Linfield Industrial Park can actually also be referred to as the former Kinsey Distillery. Click on the decades-old painting below to read some promotional material produced by Publicker Industries, Inc. – the parent company for the Continental Distilling Corporation. Follow the "click on photo to return" link to read up on the long history of Kinsey's whisky distilling. (ID# 05.24.2009 Linfield Industrial Park)

Pt. 1 of 3

Pennhurst State Hospital is a legend in this region, one that is in a sad state of "demolition by neglect." The shots in this three-part set were all taken within the walls of the Administration Building as well as both Mayflower and Limerick Halls. There are many, many things to say about historic Pennhurst State Hospital, but I'll leave the following two fantastic sites do the talking: Preserve Pennhurst and El Peecho Productions.
