Mount Moriah Cemetery has a sign at its entry points that says "permanently closed." What a great shame, for sure. With beautiful stones, history and mausoleums abound, Mount Moriah is a special place deep within the urban environment. For more on the cemetery, its history and preservation efforts, go here.

That is just intensely awesome... next time I go back to see my folks near Philadelphia, I'm gonna visit this place, for sure. And I'd bet there are some other cemeteries around Philadelphia that could be interesting...
ReplyDeleteAnother A+ Tom... If you keep this up you are going to graduate with honors !
(laughs) Thanks, Owen. Just be aware that you'll be nowhere near the best stuff if you go in the summer. Spring and late-Fall, perhaps. The overgrowth and briers are out of control – even in the dead of winter. We'd like to back and explore more one day… likely when it's not raining or anything! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photographs, Tom. I am very envious of your visit.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Laurie
I'm with Owen. Next time I visit my family in Ohio, well it's just a roadtrip away. And plenty to discover on the way there. What a striking place. Stunning photos.
ReplyDeleteI read the link, you would think at least some of those org. would do some upkeep. But as is, it does make for some striking photos.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do get back and get extensive pictures.
