Built by the Alabama Terminal Railroad on CSX's Lineville Subdivision and left vacant and abandoned, the train depot in Wadley, AL is in bad need of restoration – with no funds lying around to do so. This depot had a twin in nearby Roanoke, AL but that one burnt to the ground years ago now.

Hey Tom,
ReplyDeleteThese shots here, and in below post are fantastic... I get crazy when I find a place like this, and your photos are stirring that crazy feeling... if that's what's known as being "stir crazy", well, that's it then...
Really excellent, a good thing that some places like this still exist and can be found... the world would be a boring place without them... imho...
take care Tom, happy hunting, see you in a couple of weeks...
Thanks, Owen. I'm mapping out a route for early-May that'll take us along some back roads through central Alabama. The goal is simple: Find things like these! ;) Enjoy the break…
ReplyDeleteI love your 'eye' for photography. Really great pictures! I live in Wadley, Alabama. I have written the history of Wadley and the RR Depot for our local newspaper, The Randolph Leader. A group of citizens called, Envision Wadley, are now raising funds to restore the wonderful depot built in 1907. The town celebrated 'Depot Day' last September (2009)

Thanks, Rhonda! How fantastic, on all accounts, and I'm glad you found the images here. I'm looking forward to coming back in May for a stay with family that will also include a drive back and forth between Wadley & Selma on 22, 14, etc. to document whatever we can find.
ReplyDeleteContinued best with the restoration process and if you have a copy of the history from the newspaper, I'd love to read it. You can email me via a link in the right column under "Order Prints." – Cheers!
Hello..My family is from Wadley. Can you direct me to any other places where I can find more History? I would love to find more
